UCSD Cross-Cultural Center

Submit   The vision of the Cross-Cultural Center (CCC) is to empower UCSD to recognize, challenge, and take proactive approaches to diversity for the campus and the San Diego community. We strive for meaningful dialogues and context across all cultures, particularly those of underrepresented or underprivileged backgrounds. We offer supportive and educational services through art, programs, workshops, and outreach, and we welcome creative venues for enhancing social consciousness and equity.

2011-2012 UCSD Chicano Alumni Scholarship

2012 UCSD CHICANO ALUMNI COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The UCSD Chicano Alumni Scholarship Fund was established to recognize currently enrolled UCSD students who have participated in MEChA at UCSD and/or in community service opportunities that have benefited the Chicano community. Recipients of the Scholarship Award will receive a $500 honorarium. The honorarium will be presented at an event during the Cesar Chavez Holiday Program scheduled to take place Spring Quarter.

Eligibility:

  1. Applicants must be currently enrolled full time students at UCSD.
  2. Applicants must be in good academic standing, Undergraduates with at least a 2.0 Grade Point Average, Graduate/Professional school students with at least a 3.0 Grade Point Average.
  3. Applicants must have participated in MEChA at UCSD and/or have documentation of community service in support of the Chicano community.

Application Procedure:

The applicant must submit the following materials, via email, to Alejandra Sotelo-Solis asotelosolis@ucsd.edu by February 12th, 2012:

1.      A completed self-nomination application.

2.      An electronic copy of UCSD transcript (or electronic letter from your college academic advisor) that reveals the applicants good academic standing (e.g. TritonLink).

3.      A current resume, inclusive of community service experience and references (with phone numbers and e-mail addresses if possible).

4.      A letter from all community service organizations confirming the type and amount of your community service, OR a letter of support from the current chairperson or other current officer of MEChA at UCSD.

5.      A maximum 500 typed word, double spaced, personal statement describing your favorite community service experience and illustrate how your service experience has made an impact in your life. And, most importantly describe specifically how the Chicano community has benefited from your involvement.

The Chicano Alumni Scholarship Fund Selection Committee will evaluate applications. Finalists may be called for individual interviews. Incomplete or late applicants may not be considered.
